Heart of Worship

So today Frances shared something about worshipping God. And there's this old song by Matt Redman called "Heart of Worship". It’s a very moving and powerful song but the story behind it is even more amazing.

In churches all over the world in multiple languages people sing "Heart of Worship" by Matt Redman. The song has become something that thousands of Christians feel they can relate to. It has an honest, open and plain tune to it that leaves nothing other than an opportunity to worship the Lord.

In the late 1990's Matt Redman's hometown church was having a dry spell with their praise and worship. The Soul Survivor church located in Watford, England decided to get rid of it's high tech sound equipment for a season. Things had become so repetitious the members and leaders of the church were looking for something to spark the life back into the worship.

Matt Redman recalls "He decided (Pastor Mike Pilavachi) to get rid of the sound system and band for a season, and we gathered together with just our voices. His point was that we'd lost our way in worship, and the way to get back to the heart would be to strip everything away." Mike Pilavachi asked those in the congregation, "When you come through the doors on a Sunday, what are you bringing as your offering to God?"

Matt says the question initially led to some embarrassing silence, but eventually people broke into acappella songs and heartfelt prayers, encountering God in a fresh way.

“Before long, we reintroduced the musicians and sound system, as we’d gained a new perspective that worship is all about Jesus, and He commands a response in the depths of our souls no matter what the circumstance and setting. ‘The Heart of Worship’ simply describes what occurred.”

Redman remembers writing the song quickly in his bedroom soon after the church’s journey together, with no grand intentions, by any means, for it to become an international anthem. He viewed the words simply as his personal, subjective response to what he was learning about worship.

Then at night I went to Segama Night Market with family, KFC for supper then we head home.

I went to 1B with E5's members. We watched "Alvin and The Chipmunks 2". I find this movie is not as nice as the first Alvin and The Chipmunks movie but the chipmunks are sooooooo cute! For the Chipettes, I think they're quite hot. But "Chipettes" sounds like a bad word. Hahahahahahah
This is the resit for our lunch. It is only like half or 3 quarter of it. I shud've take this picture after every meal were counted in. Haha

Christmas Celebration

I was too busy to blog this few days. I went to church for almost everyday to help out with the Christmas preparation.
On Christmas eve, I went to church at night to celebrate. After the celebration, I went to Tanjung Aru with church friends for supper. Then we walked around the beach. I reach home quite late. Dad was waiting for me to come home. I should have brought the key out but thank God luckily he didn't nag at all. Hahah.. And so I hereby wish everyone a merry Christmas & a happy new year. =)
On Christmas day, I went to church at night. I loveyyy this year's Christmas. Lots of activities. I'm not gonna post everything cuz it's gonna be a very looooooooooooooooong post. After church, I went to Sutera with the youth until midnight. Okay, simply done... Merry Christmas again.

17th & 18th of December,
I went for Cell Group Camp. A camp where E3 & E5's members combined together. Well I'm gonna talk a bit about the camp. On the first section, Jonathan Tze did some sharing. He compose songs & he gave me his CD for free. Hahah.. We went to Water World in the afternoon. Played some team building games. Then at night we went to Gaya Street Christmas Fair. After that we played Faith Factor at Kyrugma. In case if you don't know what faith factor is, it's a game to test your faith. You fall straight from the top, trusting that your members will catch you from below. You can't bend or use your hand or whatever to support yourself. I failed the first time. But if there's a second time, I would love to give it a try again. Just giving myself a challenge. The next day we had some ice-breaker, worship, prayer & sharing. After group photo, we pack & went home. I kinda had fun. Through this camp, I get to know my cell members better. Ok simply done. No photos at the moment =) God bless!

Went Caroling today. Oh ya! I had Crispy for breakfast. Hahahah.. There were about 20 of us visited Care Haven. Firstly, we're divided into 10 groups which mean 2 person per group. Every group gotta take care of a kid. Me & Lizzie were in one group. The kid we took care of, em... I don't really knows about her. She can talk but she don't want to talk. I've spend my whole morning there but I never heard her saying a single word so it's very hard for me to communicate with her. When I asked her name, she won't answer me but looked away. I don't know what language she understand. I just talk. Even though she don't answer me, it's okay. I'm just trying my best. Her friend told me that her name's Wanny. I don't know the reason why she was there. We sang, we played ice-breaker & fabric dye. Then, few of the kids dance. They have been practising long ago but this is the first time they perform. Watching the kids dancing, I almost cried. So touched. We had our lunch there and head back to Kyrugma. It was a very great experience for me.

Went to Metro to play pool with Frank, Frances, Erica & Stephanie.
Then we went to Burger King for lunch.
After eating, we saw Oscar & Apple. So we went up to Metro again to watch them play pool. Watch half way I went home to get some rest and get prepared for cell group & Ec. For today's cg, we combined with E2 to watch "Ice Age3". Me & Erica slept during the movie cuz too tired d.. I dreamt some more. Hahahah.. And Ec was ok.

It's Cheryl's (Her name must be in pink) birthday!! Had lunch at Secret Recipe and we watched "The Princess and The Frog". I just watch it yesterday but since the birthday girl wanted to watch it so badly, just follow lah.. I had fun sleeping in the cinema too. I was quite sleepy that time cuz last night lack of sleep Hahahah... I went to the cinema for 4times in 4days. That is a new record for me. Hahahahahah.. Daddy pick me up after he pick mum from work. So I rushed to church for practise. Nah... Got photos =)

Went to CPoint for movie with Frances & Lizzie. Watched "The Princess And The Frog". The movie was... Um, not as good as how I expected. Some parts are quite funny but like those singing singing part makes me wanna sleep. Each time when the princess start to sing, me & Lizzie will look at each other, thinking "aw mannnn...not again..." But Frances actually likes the movie. Hahah.. After movie we walk around looking for clothing for Christmas but we didn't manage to get one. We went home quite early to get some rest and get prepared for tonight Xmas carol practise.

Woohoooo! I had my last paper yesterday. Haha.. Didn't get to hang out with friends cuz need to prepare for cousin's wedding dinner. So I start hanging out today. Went to Centre Point with Frances, Bong, Tys and Tseu F.Y to watch Ninja Assassin. The movie was ok. The story was not bad but quite disgusting and fake. Then I went to Kyrugma to help out. We had a combined icebreaker and worship together with E2. Today we learnt about "God's plan for prosperity". In the Bible, the word "believe" is repeated for 310 times. "Pray", 370 times. "Love", 735 times and "Give", 2642 times. Oh... Now I know O_O Hahaha.. After cell group when I was on the way to the hall, Carmen came to me.

Janzen brought his dogs, Whitey and Cho...Cho.....Chokie (forgot the spelling) to cell group today for the ice-breaker. We played 'Hi Alamak'. The one who lose will get lick by the dog on your face. Unfortunately, I lose the game. Awwwwwww man!! Then you know what happened to my face lar. =\

Went to school with daddy to get my report card. But why on my birthday?!?!! Lols. I was sooooo worry that my parents won't let me to celebrate my birthday after knowing my achievement. And I've did quite a number of mistakes recently (I think?). Was praying while we're on the way to school. Eventually, everything was ok!! Can't believe it. Teacher didn't say anything lar. Result is okayyy. Attitude?? Okay gua.. Haha! After that, I went to the beach with Samson, Frances and Connie for Ting Ting's birthday I think? Hah!

Cell Multiplication Dinner!!

Cell group together with E2 for the last time. Had our dinner together at Kyrugma House. Having great time together. So from next week onwards we'll be having our cell group separately.

Went Tun Fuad for a jog with Cathy, Frances, Lizzie, Erica, Easter, Calvin, Emman and Elden. Erica and Easter followed my car while the rest follow Calvin. We arrived earlier so we decided to tell the rest that we suddenly can't go. We purposely tell them we can't go only when they arrived so they can't do anything but to carry on their plans. Haha! We jog for 1 round. Only 1round and I'm so exhausted. Can you imagine how bad my stamina is? Lol. After that, we had a drink at the restaurant in Tun Fuad. All drank 100plus. Lizzie 3cups of ice. Seriously. Then we went home. Tiring but fun.

In his early teenage years, he was already involved in taking and selling drugs, gangs, violence and was charged to serve a prison sentence. However, his life went through a tremendous transformation when he experienced the amazing power of God's love. Now, he inspires youth to become leaders of their generation and to live their lives to God.

A very sought after pastor and communicator in Asia! His testimony had changed many people's lives, he is passionate about young people!

Sometimes teens hurt themselves on the outside to kill the pain they feel on the inside.

The first thing that might come to mind when we hear about cutting is the people who do it are suicidal freaks, or simply spoilt brats who are bored and want attention. The reality? Many teens resort to self-harming when they feel helpless and alone, as a way to exert control over their lives.

If you've ever thought of cutting yourself or have done it, you probably feel alone and may not understand why you do it. According to psychologist, it is believed that when some people go through difficult life situations that cause emotions like anger, guilt, as well as pain, the pain is internalised. It then needs to be externalised in order to keep the emotional balance of an individual in check. Some may feel that they cannot escape the pain, and resort to self-harm such as cutting their wrists. The oozing blood from a cut has a temporary soothing effect to some because along with it, the pain also "oozes out" of the body.

*The pain may be fleeting, but the scars are forever.

Fact vs Fiction

What is self-harm?

Self-harm, or self-destructive behaviour, may be defined as volitional acts that pose significant risk to life or limb. This includes:

-Non-fatal suicide attempts

-Alcoholism

-Burning yourself

-Regularly scratching scabs

-Compulsive nail-biting

-Breaking your own bones

-Hitting your head against a wall

-Sexual promiscuity

-Extremely risky sports

-Gang fighting

-Substance abuse

-Eating disorders

What is not self-harm?

Piercings and tattoos, as long as they're for beauty and decoration, and not motivated by negative thoughts and feelings.

Trusting God

Whether times are tough or easy, firm belief in a good and living God is the only road to vibrant living.

Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.

Daily Dependence

Trust the Lord with all your heart, and don't depend on your own understanding. Remember the Lord in all you do, and he will give you success. -Proverbs 3:5-6

We rightfully teach our children-and attempt to live our own lives-by the credos of responsibility, self-control, and mature self-reliance.

And yes, being responsible is a very good thing. But when our attitude reaches the point where we trust more in ourselves than in God, twin temptations, both that lead to spiritual shipwreck, suddenly confront us.

One temptation is pride, an unhealthy arrogance that slips(or roars) into our thinking when things are going great in our lives. We become convinced that we are in control of our own world.

The second temptation, despair, works itself into our hearts when we face the inevitable difficulties and setbacks of life that are outside of our control-illness, a difficult relationship, an economic downturn.

Daily trusting in God-acknowledging that He is the one source of all good gifts and success and the only safe refuge when life is difficult-steers us from the twin dangers of pride and despair.

Jesus once pointed to a little child and said, "I tell you the truth, you must change and become like little children. Otherwise, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. The greatest person in the kingdom of heaven is the one who makes himself humble like a child" (Matthew 18:3-4). A child's humility is one of trust-it pleases God when we trust Him as a child trusts and depends on his father.

James points out that trials test and prove our faith (James 1:1-3), but we don't have to wait for challenging moments to begin trusting God with our entire life. The good news is that with complete and total trust in Him, He direct our steps in the most fulfilling paths for our lives.

Becoming A New Person

One of the ways God reveals His power and activity in the world is through the way He changes us.

-Salvation is not something that is done for you but something that happens within you. It is not the clearing of a court record, but the transformation of a life attitude.

Do We Really Have A Choice?

You have begun to live the new life, in which you are being made new and are becoming like the One who made you. This new life brings you the true knowledge of God. -Colossians 3:10

For centuries, people have debated what makes a person who they are-are we born the way we are, or do we become this way through the things that happen to us?

Some psychologists believe that everything a person does is determined by the shaping influences in their lives like parents and life experiences-some go so far as to say that once a person is five, their personality is shaped and really can't be changed.

Other people think that we are primarily a product of genetics, that our behavior and attitudes follow from the way we are "wired". Common expressions of this idea would include: "I can't help it, it's just the way I was born'; or "a leopard can't change his spots"; or "the nut doesn't fall far from the tree."

Though our genes and life experiences have a huge impact on us, aren't you glad that there is a miraculous, powerful God who is able to change even the most stubborn, damaged, sinful heart? Paul goes so far as to say, "If anyone belongs to Christ, there is a new creation. The old things have gone; everything is made new! (2Corinthians 5:17). After a change of heart at the moment of conversion, God isn't finished with us, either. Paul says: "We all show the Lord's glory, and we are being changed to be like him" (2Corinthians 3:18).

But you don't understand how I've been brought up. You don't know the mistakes I've made. You don't understand how hard it is for me to break certain negative patterns. With grace, with faith, with the help of godly friends, you can say along with Paul: "Forgetting the past and straining toward what is ahead, I keep trying to reach the goal and get the prize for which God called me through Christ to the life above" (Philippians 3:13-14). Because of His forgiving, life-changing power, God's ultimate concern with your life is not where you've been, but where you are going.
